What can you say about The Knife? Well, they’re Swedish, they’re a brother and sister duo and they produce electronic music. That’s just about as specific as you can get. Considering that in the seven years since their last album; the dark, synth-pop opus ‘Silent Shout’, their only release was a 90 minute electronic opera based on the life of Charles Darwin, it’s safe to say their sound is better experienced than explained.

While normally very seclusive and incredibly media shy, recently, the murky sea of intrigue that normally surrounds the Swedish duo has started to clear…

In the last month The Knife have; announced a new album, ‘Shaking the Habitual’ (which also happened to be their first Facebook post since they added a cover photo last March), announced a European tour (their first live shows in about 6 years, sold out in about 6 minutes), and as of last monday, given the hungrily awaiting masses a glimpse at their new sound with the release of their first “single” Full of Fire. If you can call the beautifully brutal, anxiety inducing, 9 minute, industrial assault on the eardrums that is Full of Fire a single. Intrigued? I haven’t even mentioned the disorientating and confrontational short film by Swedish, feminist porn director Marit Östberg that accompanies it. Well, it’s best you experience that for yourself. Maybe you can see why we’re more excited about The Knife than ever right now, or maybe you just think we’re mad…

What can you say about The Knife? I guess you could say that they are, in a word, unpredictable…

You can check out the videos for the new single ‘Full of Fire’ (be warned, it’s not exactly safe for work…) and an old single ‘Silent Shout’ (kind of safe for work) below, and if thats got you interested you can find out more and pre-order their new album here:

one quarter woman… half photographer(dare i say)..one quarter mother..the rest is madness The first time i held a camera that i remember was ‚an old instamatic‘ at Pontins in Blackpool circa 1976~that long hot summer. I spent most of the holidays chasing my muse (big sister )around trying to ‚capture‘ a photograph alas she was 14 and quite shy and sensitive. I found the polaroid experience a joyous adventure only adding to the whole summer vacation. At the grand old age of 17 my dad bought me a do-it -yourself , all-in-one photography kit~ which included:~ a Practica SLR , an enlarger, and developing kit.

The next few years i spent under the quilt in my bedsit/darkroom with taped up sun cracks winding films on to a reel. My later teenage years were filled with the fumes of photographic devloping hemicals~nice!. From then on i spent night after night practicing skills by photographing great photographers works from large books( i know its silly but true) and developing them myself to pinning my very handsome boyyfriend at the time down to get some cool black & whites, and accumulating great lampshades and wine bottles to photograph. Wherever i walked, i took the unscenic route, figuring the back streets and behind the scenes was far more ‚real man‘. Going to Paris as a gift for my 20th birthday really sealed my love for Photography, Paris and Photography go together like Milk & Honey.

Years passed and one day to raise funds for a bill i parted with my beloved SLR and to this day regret it , as i have kept all my cameras , even the compact wind~on cheapo i took with me to Australia for a year. Empty years of camera~less time passed and then just after the digital camera age was born i popped back on board my passion train and was reunited with a camera, a Sony Powershot~ not great but great for me at the time. Years of pent up image~less years burst forth and the camera was by my side constantly, i even took it to bed.

Ting-Tong Chang (b. 1982, Taiwan) received his MFA at Goldsmiths, University of London in 2011. Known in Taipei, where he organized numerous artistic interventions and events; as a graffiti artist, his artistic practice covers both street art and elements of traditional painting and sculpture.

His installations are marked with brevity and absurd objects, getting to the core of contemporary problems: globalization stimulated by the developments in technology, blurred boundaries between nations, or the omniscient fear of terrorism that we are already accustomed to. Freely and with a wicked dose a black humor, Chang toys with such concepts as death, war, and mass destruction, which have become ingrained in today‘s world. Chang lives and works in London.

The ‘liebe glaube hoffnung’ agency additionally selected Ting-Tong-Chang as a wildcard entry.
